Societal, Cultural & environmental Impacts of Green Stormwater Infrastructure in Urban Centers of Detroit-Metropolitan Area

From students: Adam, Brittanie, Hector, Jon, Katrina, Zoha

The city of Detroit has many new Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) installations being introduced actively; however, no detailed assessment guides exist for evaluating their functionality and their role in the ecosystem services. We aim to assess functionality with the ABC model (abiotic, biotic, and cultural), and our main goal is to develop an assessment guide to determine the regulation, support, provisioning, and cultural services provided by GSI. Specific aims involve: (1) the soil functionality, in terms of infiltration capacity and microplastics effects; (2) connection among land use, plant communities, pollinators and basal resources of decomposition; and (3) assessment of social aspects surrounding GSI that may elucidate correlations between abiotic and biotic factors.
