Effects of Heat Island Effect and Air Pollution on Urban Agriculture Yield and Contaminant Uptake
From students: Sarah Black and Halima Salah
Though a partnership with community gardens from around the city of Detroit. They seek to understand the potential interactive effects of air pollution and heat island effects on urban agriculture yield and metal concentrations (e.g. contamination/nutritional values) in the crops. They will be modeling particulate matter for the city on a fine scale, and use crops from the community gardens at time of harvest for chemical analysis.
